Genny’s Garden History
When we learned that two maple trees planted on Arbor Day were going to be surrounded by a sea of turf grass, we proposed a garden. “We” being my love, Peter Mullett, and Evolving. He paid for it; I designed, installed and currently maintain it.
The Town of Carbondale simply requested that we submit a plan to show our intent. I wanted to create a tiny oasis in a growing neighborhood reflecting the western spirit of the historic cabin on the southwest corner of 6th and Colorado, diagonal from the Rec Center. Native and ornamental grasses weave together a tapestry of tough and resilient forbes, shrubs, evergreens and perennials- many of which grow on the very hillsides surrounding this spectacular valley. It was approved and Genny’s Garden has been evolving over the last 3 seasons.
It was my hopes that Art Around Town would be thrilled to use it as a site for sculpture, but sometimes personalities and politics deny us our dreams! “Window On Time” is now in our own private garden, but we will continue to place sculpture as we gain access to it.
